Building BGAN

Cobham SATCOM played a vital role in building Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network, and in doing so helped to revolutionise satcoms as we know it.

Our close co-operation with Inmarsat means that on land, at sea and in the air, BGAN connects people wherever they are in the world.

Latest generation

BGAN uses the TT-6900 Inmarsat BGAN RAN (3G Radio Access Network); the latest generation of satellite gateways developed by Cobham SATCOM.

We have delivered five state-of-the-art gateways to Inmarsat, which are used to run the Global Inmarsat BGAN service, providing 3G BGAN data and voice services.

Land, sea or air

On land it's BGAN, at sea it's FleetBroadband and in the air it's Swiftbroadband. Regardless of where, we help to enable high quality voice and data up to 432kbps and streaming up to 384kbps.

The speed and global coverage supported by our infrastructure has revolutionsed communications for ships, aircraft and a wide variety of users communicating from remote areas on land.

Redundancy for reliability

Our dual-redundant systems enable a host of functionality to ensure a stable, reliable user experience including operation in up to 200 narrow spots, QoS control, link adaption and variable coding rate.

Our technology meets high requirements for availability and reliability, helping Inmarsat to provide a high-quality, flexible service to hundreds of thousands of users around the world.
